I decided to write a page to try and make posting things here a bit easier I’ll add new bits and bobs to here every now and again
Posting Things
Use the login link in the bottom right to login to the site
Then click “site admin” to go to the admin section
Click Posts -- Add New to add a new post to the site
Enter a title for your post and also some tags, tags are useful because they let us search the site for random words relating to the post later and it’ll return results. A good set of tags is usually something like “the, posts, title, seperating, each, word, with, commas,” if its a video stick a “video,” tag in there too and anything else that you might search the site for to find that video or link.
Once you’ve entered all your tags click the add button to add them to the post.
Once you’ve written your post make sure it’s in the right category in the bottom right
and then click publish on the top right.
Adding a Link
If you aren’t embedding a video or image you might just want to link to another site. The best way to do this is with the “[/thumb]” tags because this’ll make a nice image preview thumbnail to represent the link.
So if I was linking to www.hotmexicanscatsex.com I’d put the following into the editor screen (from the HTML tab rather than the visual tab) “[thumb]http://www.hotmexicanscatsex.com[/thumb]“
Inserting Videos
*New* The easy way to add youtube vids
Please use this method to upload all youtube videos otherwise they won’t be automatically backed up on the site in case they ever go down
Paste the address to the youtube page and add a v after the “http” part of the address so to add
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsAdIdfJirA
I would enter
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsAdIdfJirA
into the editor
Downloading Videos
Because Youtube are dicks things get deleted eventually and as this is meant to be a permanent record of things we have found funny videos are cached to the server. I don’t recommend downloading them if the youtube vids are still up as the speeds will be poor and you can download it directly from youtube much faster.
Videos are cached at midnight daily so if a youtube video has been posted the link won’t currently work till after midnight.
Videos are only cached if you embed them with the “httpv:// method above to embed them, its easy just copy and paste the webpage address of the youtube video in question (not the embed code on youtube’s site gough) and change http to httpv.
